Statement Necklaces

I shop a lot… I’m talking a lot, but most of the time I have an item that I’m searching for and each season it changes. Sometimes it’s shoes, sometimes hats but recently it’s been statement necklaces that I’m coveting. There are so many really interesting ones out there that every time I find another one, I can’t help but snatch it up. I’m a big fan of bangles and earrings, but when I have one of these necklaces on I don’t feel the need to add much more jewelry to my look. Collar, chunky, simple, link… what type of necklace are you coveting this season?

Here are a few of my favorites that I can’t stop wearing…

Blues

I love the monochromatic trend. I’ve paired teal skirts with green sweaters, red pants with salmon button ups, and many others but there was something about this outfit that felt more “me.” I’m not sure exactly what it is… maybe the way the orange and green of the paisley break up the all blue look or just how classic yet comfortable these pieces are. Whatever it is I have a feeling this button up will quickly be a go to piece this summer!

Banana Bread

There are few smells better than a loaf of banana bread baking to fill your kitchen, so when I realized I had three very ripe bananas I knew exactly what to do. Bread always seems like such a difficult thing to make but let me tell you- this recipe is one of the easiest things I’ve ever made… I’m talking prep time of maybe 10 minutes!

INGREDIENTS
3 or 4 ripe bananas, smashed (I used three and you definitely get the “banana” taste)
1/3 cup melted butter
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon baking soda
Pinch of salt
1 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour

*I added about a half cup of slivered almonds since I like a little crunch to my banana bread- you can add coconut, walnuts, chocolate chips, cranberries… whatever you want!

Preheat the oven to 350°F. With a spoon, mix butter and mashed bananas in a large mixing bowl. Mix in the sugar, egg, vanilla, baking soda and salt and mix together. Add the flour last, folding it into the mixture. Pour mixture into a 4×8 inch loaf pan. Bake for 50 minutes- 1 hour.

Denim

This spring hasn’t been as warm as past years, but I’m kind of ok with it since that means more opportunities for me to wear this jean jacket! But this particular evening, when I was going to the bf’s cousin’s lacrosse game, I should have worn a parka– believe me, I looked pretty funny trying to keep warm!

Nutella Cookies

DSC_0025

One morning when I was going through my emails I came across World Market’s 1 day only sale on Nutella… I was looking for a patio set, not nutella recipes, but I clicked on the email and noticed a cookie recipe that looked too simple not to try!

1 cup of nutella
1 egg
1/2 cup of flour
1/2 cup of M&Ms (or hershey kisses or chocolate chips!)

*I used Peanut Butter M&Ms and they were delicious!

Preheat oven to 350F. In a large mixing bowl combine Nutella, egg and flour with a spoon. until smooth dough forms. Stir in the chocolate chips or M&Ms. (If you’re using hershey kisses don’t add them yet!)

Form dough into 1″ diameter balls. Place about 2 inches apart on cookie sheets lined with parchment paper. Bake for 10 minutes. If using kisses, quickly press a kiss into each cookie. Transfer onto a cooling rack or off the cookie sheet. Let cool and enjoy!

Ladylike

Everyone has that one dress in their closet that instantly makes them feel put together. This dress is that item for me. I purchased this Lilly Pulitzer dress not realizing how much use I would get out of it. I’ve worn it to work, bridal showers, baby showers and it’s always one to get compliments. The color, the embellished collar and the material all contribute to my love for the piece!

Brunch

My brother was in town after being over seas for the past 4+ months so when he came into Arlington I knew that we needed to grab breakfast at Bayou Bakery. A couple of months ago I did a post all about the Arlington stop so I won’t go into much detail but man- this place is so good! I ordered grits and coffee while Jack ordered biscuits and gravy that smelled beyond delicious! Oh and of course some beignets to share!
